If I were speaking to you directly, I would begin by saying this: It is important that you know what is important to you.

As I reflect on my own career, I realise that I am, at another level, doing what fascinated me even as a child–understanding how people communicate and relate to one another. I have stayed true to that passion. While not every aspect of my work is directly connected to it, it has always remained aligned.

So, ask yourself: what truly matters to you? Where does your passion lie? And what steps do you need to take to build your career in a way that reflects that? Building a strong résumé is important, but alignment matters just as much.

If your current role does not fully connect to your passion, yet you need to remain in it, then find other ways, such as mentoring, volunteering, or sponsoring, to stay connected to what drives you. Ensure that, throughout your career, you are contributing to your passion in meaningful ways.
