The company believes reusable launch systems can significantly reduce launch costs while increasing flight frequency. The Louisiana facility will include specialized recovery towers capable of catching returning rockets and spacecraft after they complete their missions.

Before the spaceport becomes operational, Starship must complete additional flight testing. SpaceX is expected to conduct another major test mission aimed at demonstrating orbital capability and further validating the vehicle’s performance. Additional testing will also focus on landing and reusing the upper stage safely.

The proposed development will also undergo extensive environmental, wetlands, natural resource, and launch-related regulatory reviews before construction progresses. SpaceX has stated that large portions of the site’s 125,000 acres will remain untouched to preserve wetlands and natural habitats.
