Dr. Jeff Slutskiy: Full-Arch Surgeon | Odessa Family Dental | The Enterprise World

The dental implant industry is undergoing a profound transformation, with technological advancements reshaping how care is delivered and patients expecting more personalized, lasting solutions than ever before, and in the midst of this evolution, Dr. Jeff Slutskiy, DMD FICOI, stands as a beacon of positive change. As Full Arch Surgeon and Chief Dental Officer at Odessa Family Dental, part of Dynamic Dental Services Group, he is redefining what it means to deliver exceptional full-arch implant care while many implant centers commoditize treatment with “cookie cutter” approaches that he refuses to follow. His philosophy is simple yet powerful: we are not treating teeth, we are treating people.

With over 2,000 implants placed and more than 150 full arch cases completed across seven years as owner-operator, his clinical credibility is undeniable, and as a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and a mentor to associate doctors across 10 practices and 20 doctors, he has built his reputation on technical mastery, honest communication, and genuine humanity. His journey from a fixer-upper practice doing less than $400k to a multi-million-dollar success demonstrates what happens when clinical excellence meets authentic care for people.

From Los Angeles to Leadership, The Journey That Shaped a Chief Dental Officer

Dr. Jeff Slutskiy grew up in Los Angeles and planned to return to California to work with his father after graduating dental school. However, Dr. Michael Abernathy, a dental consultant and author, came to his school to give a lecture and offered some incredibly valuable advice. Together, they went through the demographics in Los Angeles and ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right place for Dr. Slutskiy to go to get the type of growth he was motivated to achieve. Based on this guidance, he decided to start his career in Dallas, Texas instead. This decision marked a significant turning point in his professional journey and shaped his approach to both dentistry and leadership.

Dr. Slutskiy worked as an associate in Dallas for two years before meeting and joining his two business partners in Kansas City in 2019. Together they bought a third practice, Odessa Family Dental, for him to work in a fixer-upper doing less than $400k. Since then, they have started or purchased 15 practices, and today the group does over $20 million in yearly revenue, with his fixer-upper practice doing nearly $3.5 million by itself. This journey from a struggling practice to a thriving multi-practice organization reflects the experiences, mentors, and turning points that shaped his approach to dentistry and led him to become Chief Dental Officer at Dynamic Dental Services Group.

A Passion for Implants, Restoring People, Not Just Teeth

The journey that took Dr. Jeff Slutskiy from a fixer-upper practice in Odessa to Chief Dental Officer of a thriving multi-practice organization was built on a clinical passion that began in dental school. Always one to embrace technology and new techniques, he became passionate about implants because he recognized them as the best way to restore a patient’s teeth and help them return to normal life. That enthusiasm deepened as he witnessed countless patients struggling with dentures, partials, and failing dental work daily reminders of conventional approaches that patch things up without offering lasting stability.

What Dr. Slutskiy observed in these patients fundamentally shaped his philosophy. While he commends other dentists for trying to be conservative and save teeth at all costs, he came to understand that this mindset misses a critical point: we are not treating teeth, we are treating people. Patients want a stable result that will last for years, not additional treatment every 6-12 months as their dental work deteriorates. This realization drove his commitment to full-arch rehabilitation and to creating techniques that restore patients with implants in the most conservative ways possible, delivering lasting solutions that honor both the function and the humanity of every patient he treats.

Navigating the Unpredictable in Implant Surgery

No two surgical cases are ever the same, and Dr. Jeff Slutskiy sees both the beauty and the major risk in that reality. The difference between an experienced surgeon and someone who dabbles, he says, is knowing what to do when things don’t go according to plan. One particular case illustrated this truth powerfully when his patient had a “hollow mandible,” meaning the interior portion of the lower jaw bone was incredibly soft, offering no primary stability for the implants. Without primary stability, they couldn’t screw in the patient’s temporary teeth after surgery, leaving the patient stuck using a denture during four months of healing, an incredibly uncomfortable thing to wear that Dr. Slutskiy tries to avoid at all costs.

What he was able to do for this patient reveals the value of hard-earned experience. He used much longer implants in order to engage the dense cortical bone in the patient’s chin and get the necessary stability to load the implants. An inexperienced doctor would not have known to even try this, but Dr. Slutskiy’s education and experience allowed him to pivot and get a good result for his patient. The case reinforced a lesson that defines his approach to complex implant surgery: when the unexpected arises, preparation and clinical judgment make all the difference.

The Art of Patient Evaluation in Full-Arch Treatment

Evaluating a patient for full-arch implant treatment is perhaps the most important part of what Dr. Jeff Slutskiy does, especially as he has watched many implant centers pop up and commoditize implant dentistry where patients receive the same “cookie cutter” treatment no matter what. Dr. Slutskiy refuses to practice that way, and each case is fully customized to the patient sitting in front of him as he takes the time to talk about their health history, what they are looking to improve, and the maintenance care that will follow treatment.

He also factors in patient age and how likely they are to need a revision down the road when recommending treatment, because his job, as he sees it, is to not only improve the patient’s life immediately but to set them up for long term success and ensure that they always have a “Plan-B” if things go wrong down the road. This philosophy guides every diagnosis, every treatment sequence, and every conversation he has with patients who place their trust in him.

A Blueprint for Successful Full-Arch Outcomes

Through his experience in full-arch implant dentistry, Dr. Jeff Slutskiy developed the True Smile Protocol for his full-arch implant patients, a treatment blueprint that begins with precision 3D records and smile engineering, along with in-house surgical planning and guide fabrication.

From there, truly customized and precise implant surgery is performed, aided with biologic healing accelerating procedures like L-PRF and autogenous grafting, and finally, each patient’s smile is customized to their face and their aesthetic desires. This protocol represents the specific techniques and clinical approaches Dr. Slutskiy has refined over the years, and it serves as the foundation for the successful outcomes his patients experience.

Transforming Every Stage of Full-Arch Treatment

Digital dentistry and technology have fundamentally changed the way Dr. Jeff Slutskiy approaches full-arch implant treatment, and his practice uses cutting edge techniques and technology at every stage. Multiple intraoral scanners take patient records before, during, and after surgery, while surgical guides are designed and 3D printed in order to place implants precisely where they are planned prior to surgery. Photogrammetry is used to get the exact location of dental implants relative to each other in order to create perfectly fitting teeth, and while this may sound simple, it is something that used to take hours and multiple appointments before this digital solution existed.

After surgery, the patient’s temporary teeth are 3D printed, customized and designed to fit their face, and changes can be made in real time as the team edits digital designs rather than working with dentures and acrylic like techniques from the past. For Dr. Slutskiy, these technologies have made the greatest difference by streamlining workflows, improving precision, and ultimately delivering better experiences and outcomes for his patients.

Building Patient Trust Through Honest Communication

Patient trust is especially important when treatment involves a significant investment of time, money, and confidence, and Dr. Jeff Slutskiy approaches this responsibility with a simple philosophy: education is his first job. Before making any recommendations, he explains the various options to his patients and asks questions to better understand what is most important to them, because his job, as he sees it, isn’t to sell anything but to explain the risks, benefits, and any long term consequences of treatment.

Beyond that, the patient has complete autonomy to decide what makes sense for them, and while there are times when a patient may be frustrated that the particular treatment they are interested in is not possible, Dr. Slutskiy understands that it is his job to use his experience and clinical judgment to recommend only the treatments that are in the best interest of the patient. This commitment to honest communication and patient autonomy is what builds the trust that carries through every stage of full-arch implant treatment.

Dr. Jeff Slutskiy: Full-Arch Surgeon | Odessa Family Dental | The Enterprise World

He acknowledges that this is a scary thing for many people, but AI will continue to evolve and improve whether we want it to or not. An Open Letter to the Dental Profession

To my fellow dental professionals, aspiring dentists, and the patients who place their trust in our care,

There are many of what I would label as “doomsdayers” in dentistry today. These are people who complain that dental school is too expensive, insurance companies are ruining the profession, and that private equity backed DSOs are corrupting patient care. While all of these claims have an element of truth in some circumstances, I believe that dentistry is still a phenomenal career to pursue and has a lot of potential.

If experienced dentists spent less time complaining and instead used it to pay it forward and mentor a single young dentist, the profession would be in an infinitely better place. This is why we started DDS Group, and this is what makes us different from most DSOs.

The future of our profession, including the advancement of full-arch dental implants, depends not on what we criticize but on what we build. Continuous learning, ethical patient care, and genuine mentorship must remain the cornerstones of everything we do. I encourage every dentist to invest in the next generation, and I encourage every patient to know that there are those of us who remain steadfastly committed to their best interests.

With respect and dedication to our profession,

Dr. Jeff Slutskiy, DMD FICOI
Full Arch Surgeon and Chief Dental Officer
Odessa Family Dental, part of Dynamic Dental Services Group
