Honda Opens Orders for Affordable Motocompacto Electric Scooter

Affordable Honda Motocompacto Opens Orders for Electric Scooter | The Enterprise World

In a nod to its iconic 1983 honda motocompacto motorcycle, Honda has unveiled a modern electric reincarnation, the Motocompacto. This compact electric scooter is now available for order at an incredibly affordable price of $995, offering an exciting and eco-friendly solution for urban commuters and college students.

The original Honda Motocompacto was a tiny gasoline-powered motorcycle designed to fit inside the trunk of a small car. It allowed drivers to extend their mobility within a city, but it came with its own set of challenges, primarily the risk of oil leaks and a hot tailpipe in the confined space. The Honda Motocompacto addresses these concerns with its all-electric design.

Honda’s decision to develop an electric version was not entirely unexpected, as they had previously trademarked the “Motocompacto” name. The introduction of this affordable electric scooter offers a sustainable and convenient last-mile transportation solution.

Compact Design and Performance

While the Motocompacto may not be a powerhouse in terms of performance, it excels in portability and practicality. The scooter features a modest 490W front-wheel motor and has a top speed of 15 mph (25 km/h). Its battery is listed as “6.8Ah,” though the actual capacity depends on the system voltage. With a range of up to 12 miles on a single charge, the Honda Motocompacto is designed for short commutes and city travel.

Charging the scooter is a breeze, with a 110V charger capable of replenishing the battery in just 3.5 hours. What sets the Honda Motocompacto apart is its onboard storage for the charger, making it a convenient option for office workers who may need to recharge during the day.

In terms of rider comfort and convenience, the Motocompacto offers a plush seat, secure grip foot pegs, a digital speedometer, a charge gauge, and a convenient carry handle. An accompanying smartphone app allows riders to customize their settings, including lighting and ride modes, through Bluetooth connectivity.

Ordering and Pricing Details

As of today, orders for the Honda Motocompacto are officially open. Prospective buyers have three options to make a purchase. They can place an order online or visit a local Honda or Acura dealer in person.

Online ordering requires customers to select a local Honda or Acura dealer for the transaction, and they can choose between home delivery or in-person pickup during the ordering process. While the initial price is a highly attractive $995, potential buyers should be aware that additional taxes and local dealer fees may apply. For example, ordering from a dealer in Florida brings the total to $1,243, but choosing a dealer a few miles away reduces the cost to $1,044. However, selecting a dealer in Los Angeles allows buyers to secure the base price of $995, although it would entail a significant road trip.
