Google Search’s generative AI is now able to create images with just a text prompt

AI-Generated Google Search's Generative AI Can Now Create Images from Text Prompts | The Enterprise World

The functionality closely resembles Bing Chat: you input a prompt directly into Google Search, and within a few moments, AI-generated four images are presented. What sets this tool apart is the ability to select one of the images and further refine it by modifying its description to provide additional details.

For instance, Google demonstrates the process of instructing SGE to generate a “realistic image of a capybara” preparing breakfast in a forest. The demonstration then illustrates how you can make specific changes, such as altering the food the animal is cooking from bacon to hash browns or replacing the backdrop from trees with the sky.

Google has specified in its announcement

This feature won’t be limited to Google Search alone, as the company has indicated that you might “find an option to create AI-generated images directly in Google Images.” In such a scenario, one of the image search results will be substituted with a button offering access to the image generation engine, which will appear in a separate sub-window on the right.

However, there are certain restrictions associated with this experiment. SGE incorporates safeguards designed to prevent content that violates the company’s generative AI policy. This includes, but is not limited to, the promotion of illegal activities, the generation of misinformation, and the creation of explicit content that lacks educational or “artistic” value. Furthermore, every generated image will be marked with “metadata labeling” and an AI-generated watermark to indicate its origin.

In the future, AI-generated content will come with its own “About This Image” description, providing users with essential context about the content they are viewing. Google is clearly committed to avoiding the dissemination of misinformation on the internet.

Google has specified in its announcement that this testing phase is presently accessible exclusively to English-speaking users in the United States who have opted into the SGE program. Additionally, users must be at least 18 years of age to utilize it. Notably, the announcement does not mention that not everyone will be granted access, including our team, which is why we are unable to share our creations with you.

Compose a message to a contractor, requesting a quote

If you’re interested in participating in the program, we offer a comprehensive guide that outlines step-by-step instructions on how to join SGE. The process is straightforward; you simply need to register on the Search Labs website, whether you’re using a desktop or mobile device. Apart from generating images, you can also request SGE to draft messages or emails if you struggle with wording.

Google provides an example of instructing the AI to “compose a message to a contractor, requesting a quote” for a house renovation project. Once the draft is ready, you can transfer it to either Google Docs or Gmail to fine-tune it and add your personal touch. The company assures that this specific content is afforded the same level of protection as all elements within the Google Workspace portfolio, ensuring the security of your data.
