American Express has announced a sweeping refresh of its U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Cards®, marking the largest investment in the cards’ history. The company revealed that these updates will roll out later this year, aiming to elevate the Platinum Card experience with expanded benefits, enhanced design, and broader access to exclusive services.
“More than 40 years ago, we launched the Platinum Card, and it remains a symbol of premium service and experience,” said Howard Grosfield, Group President of U.S. Consumer Services at American Express. “Today, we’re pushing it even further, especially to meet the lifestyle and travel demands of Millennials and Gen Z, who made up 35% of U.S. consumer spending last quarter.”
As part of this refresh, American Express is expanding access to its extensive lounge network already the most comprehensive among credit card issuers. With more than 1,550 lounges across 500+ airports, the brand is adding three new Centurion Lounges in Newark, Salt Lake City, and Tokyo, bringing the total to 32 worldwide.
Expanded Access to Dining, Hotels, and Lifestyle Benefits
Beyond travel perks, the new Platinum offering will deepen its reach into dining and hospitality. American Express’ Resy platform already provides cardmembers with access to over 20,000 restaurants in more than 30 countries. The recent acquisition of Tock will add another 7,000 venues, including restaurants, wineries, and event spaces.
Luxury travel is also a key focus. With over 2,600 curated properties, American Express’ Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection are expanding into trending destinations. Notably, Fine Hotels + Resorts remains the only credit card program guaranteeing a 4:00 p.m. late check-out at over 1,600 global properties.
For Business Platinum Card Members, enhancements will include greater flexibility in spending limits based on usage and payment history, as well as expanded access to tools that support cash flow, rewards, and virtual cards. Business customers will also benefit from the same elevated travel and lifestyle features enjoyed by consumer cardholders.
Positioning for the Future with Global Experiences and Innovation
In keeping with its reputation for premium experiences, American Express continues to invest in exclusive access to cultural and sporting events. From motor racing and tennis to global music festivals, cardmembers will enjoy a range of immersive activities backed by the company’s award-winning global servicing and digital capabilities.
The brand also announced upcoming collaborations with top-tier partners, which will be unveiled in full during the fall announcement of additional card refresh details. These moves align with American Express’ broader strategy of blending luxury, technology, and lifestyle to stay ahead in the competitive payments landscape.
Founded in 1850 and headquartered in New York, American Express remains a global leader in premium payments. With a presence in approximately 200 countries and territories, the company continues to offer innovative products and services that support both individual consumers and businesses around the world.
