A Digital Evolution of the Acclaimed Board Game
Arc Games and Snapshot Games have officially announced Frosthaven, a dark fantasy tactical RPG based on the widely praised board game of the same name. The game will enter Early Access for PC via Steam in 2025, bringing the board game’s strategic depth and immersive storytelling to the digital realm. A closed beta playtest is scheduled to run from March 27 to April 24, allowing select players to experience an early version of the game.
Created by Isaac Childres, Frosthaven builds upon the legacy of Gloomhaven, offering players an intense and rewarding tactical experience. Designed for both solo and cooperative online multiplayer gameplay, the game welcomes both veteran fans of the original board game and newcomers. To ensure accessibility, Frosthaven will feature multiple difficulty levels, improved user experience, and quality-of-life enhancements that cater to different playstyles.
Deep Tactical Combat and Character Variety
At the core of Frosthaven is its intricate tactical combat system, requiring players to make careful decisions in turn-based battles. Using an ability card system, players must strategize their attacks, execute powerful combos, and manage their party’s survival against formidable enemies and bosses. The game introduces six starting character classes—Banner Spear, Boneshaper, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade, and Deathwalker—each offering distinct playstyles and abilities. As players progress, additional character classes will be unlocked, further expanding tactical possibilities.
Resource management plays a critical role in shaping the journey through Frosthaven’s treacherous world. Players must carefully balance risk and reward while ensuring their party’s synergy remains strong. Beyond combat, players will have the ability to build and manage their outpost, upgrading structures and unlocking new mechanics that enhance the gameplay experience.
A Vast, Evolving World with Multiplayer Support
Set in a richly detailed dark fantasy universe, Frosthaven features dynamic environments, seasonal changes, and visually striking biomes. The game’s art style, highly detailed character models, and expressive animations bring the world to life, making exploration as engaging as combat. The Early Access release will include over 35 quests across Acts 1 and 2, with more than 130 quests planned for the full campaign. A tutorial and introductory questline will also be available, allowing new players to get familiar with the game’s mechanics.
Additionally, Frosthaven will support online cooperative multiplayer for two to four players, enabling friends to embark on the adventure together at any time. With its expansive world, evolving content, and immersive tactical gameplay, Frosthaven aims to deliver a compelling RPG experience when it launches in Early Access in 2025. Fans of the original board game and newcomers alike can look forward to exploring the dangerous northern frontier, battling powerful foes, and building their own path to survival.
