Sreeja’s professional journey reflects discipline, continuous learning, and perseverance. Her early exposure to Industrial Engineering introduced her to highly structured systems involving GSD, method study, motion study, workplace engineering, capacity planning, and process optimization. These foundational experiences shaped her long-term approach towards operational excellence and structured execution.

During her 1st employment at Leela Scottish Lace Ltd., she gained invaluable mentorship and professional confidence through leaders who recognised her potential even before visible results emerged. That experience reinforced a lifelong belief that knowledge becomes truly meaningful only when it is shared and used to empower others.

A major turning point in Sreeja’s career came during her association with Gokaldas Exports Limited, where she worked in demanding manufacturing environments involving multiple global brands, large-scale operations, and complex production systems.

Sreeja Balachandra transformational journey accelerated further through Lean Sigma initiatives conducted in collaboration with the USA-based consulting group TBM. The rigorous assessments and leadership development programs significantly strengthened her expertise in operational transformation, strategic thinking, and problem-solving.

During this phase, she also faced challenges arising from traditional perceptions surrounding women leading high-pressure manufacturing transformation projects. Rather than stepping back, she continued to lead with determination and consistency, proving that leadership is defined by capability, commitment, and execution not by gender.

Board-level reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and large-scale transformation assignments further strengthened her resilience, accountability, and confidence as a leader capable of driving sustainable operational change.

Over the years, Sreeja assumed larger responsibilities across textile and leather apparel manufacturing environments, handling complex operational challenges and transformation initiatives.

One of the most significant milestones in her career was leading a greenfield manufacturing project that transformed raw land into a fully operational apparel manufacturing facility ready for production and shipment. During this phase, she made significant contributions at Bhartiya International Ltd. through complete ownership of operations.

Her leadership also extended into social compliance readiness, technical audits, commercial coordination, and operational excellence implementation.

At Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., she supported the establishment of a Training Academy under Organisational Development and collaborated with McKinsey & Company on process standardisation and digital transformation initiatives aimed at building structured capability development systems for future professionals.

She also participated in leadership development training at Fung Academy, Hong Kong, focused on “Leading Self and Leading Others,” further strengthening her transformational leadership capabilities.

At Texport Overseas Pvt. Ltd., Sreeja played a key role in establishing Manufacturing Excellence systems from the ground up.

Her professional journey later expanded internationally through an opportunity with Classic Fashion Apparel Industry Ltd., Jordan, where she applied manufacturing excellence practices within a multicultural global environment. Working with multinational teams enhanced her understanding of international manufacturing standards and cross-functional collaboration.

Beyond operational transformation, Sreeja remains deeply passionate about developing future talent for the apparel industry. She strongly believes that attracting younger generations into manufacturing is both an industry necessity and a social responsibility.

She has contributed significantly to talent development by supporting the hiring and mentoring of more than 700 trainees from engineering colleges, ATDC, NIFT, and other educational institutions. Through mentoring, internships, and continuous knowledge sharing, she has helped young professionals understand industry realities beyond classroom learning. This support is extended, including her overseas assignments.

Further strengthening this commitment, Sreeja Balachandra has been onboarded as a NAIAB member at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to support stronger collaboration between industry and academia while promoting industry readiness initiatives.

Sreeja’s personal journey: rooted in values, driven by vision

From a small village in Kannur, Kerala, to building a distinguished professional identity in Bengaluru, Sreeja Balachandra’s life journey is a powerful reflection of resilience, courage, and transformation.

Born into a traditional and orthodox Nambiar family, she was raised in a closely knit household shaped by discipline, humility, and strong cultural values. Her father, T.N.B. Nambiar, served as a dedicated government schoolteacher, while her mother, Girija Nambiar, devoted herself to nurturing the family. The love and guidance she received from her parents and grandparents during her formative years played a defining role in shaping her outlook on life.

As the eldest among three siblings, responsibility became a natural part of her upbringing. Influenced by traditional customs and horoscope compatibility, she entered into marriage at a young age. However, rather than limiting her aspirations, marriage became the beginning of a journey of self-discovery and growth. Determined to pursue her dreams, she continued her education after marriage while balancing motherhood and family responsibilities with grace and determination. For more than twenty years under the same roof, she became an irreplaceable presence in her in-laws’ lives, standing by them until the very end. 

At a time when professional ambitions for women were often restricted by orthodox beliefs, Sreeja emerged as one of the first women in her family and community to step into the professional world, courageously breaking societal barriers and redefining expectations for women of her generation.

Her spouse, Sreeja Balachandra P. M., adds yet another inspiring chapter to the family’s remarkable journey. A distinguished powerlifting and weightlifting champion, he has earned numerous national and international accolades while simultaneously building a respected career in the banking sector. He also served as a prominent trade union leader in the banking industry, admired for his commitment, leadership, and dedication to officers’ welfare.

Their son, Pranav Chandra, represents the next generation of ambition and excellence. A former swimmer with a strong passion for achievement, he chose an entirely different professional path and successfully pursued a career as a commercial pilot. His journey reflects the family’s enduring spirit of courage, individuality, determination, and the continuous pursuit of excellence.
