Large and highly customized orders have posed challenges for baristas, slowing down service and contributing to a decline in overall sales, according to reports. By streamlining the menu, Starbucks seeks to ensure higher quality and consistency across its locations. “As part of our plan to get back to Starbucks, we’re simplifying our menu to focus on fewer, more popular items, executed with excellence,” the company shared in a statement to Today.com. This move is expected to allow for future innovations while staying true to Starbucks’ roots as a coffee-focused brand.
This menu revision is part of CEO Brian Niccol’s broader strategy to optimize company operations. Alongside these changes, Starbucks also announced layoffs affecting 1,100 corporate employees worldwide. However, store baristas will not be impacted by these workforce reductions. Niccol emphasized that these decisions aim to streamline efficiency, increase accountability, and reduce complexity within the organization.
Drinks Being Discontinued and Their Alternatives
As part of this initiative, Starbucks Revamps Menu by eliminating several underperforming drinks. However, the company has suggested alternative beverages for customers who may miss their favorites:

More Changes Coming by Year-End
The Starbucks Revamps Menu initiative is just the beginning. Starbucks plans to eliminate 30% of its U.S. menu by the end of the fiscal year in September. This effort extends beyond beverages, with certain food items also expected to be phased out.
In addition to menu adjustments, mobile ordering has seen recent updates. The maximum number of items per order has been reduced from 15 to 12, and some customization options, such as adding lemonade or milk to Refreshers, have been removed to streamline the process.
As part of the Starbucks Revamps Menu initiative, Niccol has also pledged to enhance customer experience by reviving Starbucks’ traditional coffeehouse atmosphere. Future improvements include handwritten messages on cups and the use of ceramic mugs for in-store orders, reinforcing a more personal and cozy environment. These strategic moves indicate a significant transformation aimed at making Starbucks more efficient while staying true to its core values.
