Price Hike After Grok 3 Launch
Shortly after xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, introduced Grok 3, X raised the cost of its Premium+ subscription plan to nearly $50 per month. The updated pricing was revealed on X’s support page, showing that U.S. users now face a monthly fee of $40 or an annual charge of $350 for Premium+. This price hike occurred just hours after the launch of Grok 3, which is integrated into the Premium+ plan. The increase wasn’t limited to the U.S.; X also adjusted prices in other regions. In the U.K., the cost jumped from £17 to £35 per month, while in countries like France and Germany, it rose from €21 to €38 monthly.
Second Price Increase in Recent Months
This marks the second time X has raised the price of its Premium+ plan in a few months. In December, the company increased the monthly rate from $16 to $22. With the latest adjustment, Premium+ subscribers are now paying over twice as much as before. Despite the significant price hike, some advanced features of Grok 3 are not included in the Premium+ plan. xAI is offering these features, such as “deep search” and “reasoning,” under a separate SuperGrok plan available through the Grok app. This strategic move may encourage users to upgrade or purchase additional services.
Inconsistent Pricing Creates Confusion
Amid the price changes, users have noticed inconsistencies in the pricing displayed on X. When attempting to sign up for the Premium+ plan X, one reporter saw a cost of $39.83 per month ($477.95 annually), but the final checkout page showed an annual fee of $395. Moreover, while X’s support page lists the monthly subscription at $50, the sign-up page displays a rate of $48.40, and the checkout process charges $40 per month. This pricing confusion has left users unclear about the exact cost of the Premium+ plan.
