Apart from his law pursuits, he also played sports and coached track and field on a part-time basis. He then attempted to make it in the US Olympic Team in Track and Field and managed to become an alternate to the US Olympic Team in Track and Field during the summer of his first year of law school.
Steven’s sports career was a success. He has been honoured five times as an all-American track star. However, the former olympic alternate shifted gears and took his career from the fields to a desk just like his track record.

Before embarking on his legal career, Steven defied family tradition by attending the University of Kansas on academic and athletic scholarships rather than Stanford. In 1976, Steven took a holiday to Kansas to get a license to practice law there. Upon his return, he joined the Law Offices of Joseph St. John, handling complex civil litigation and creating the commercial and business litigation section’s infrastructure.
