Nestlé has announced the replacement of CEO Mark Schneider with Laurent Freixe, a veteran of the company. Schneider, who led Nestlé for eight years, has chosen to step down from his role as Nestle’s New CEO and board member. Freixe, who joined Nestlé in 1986 and most recently served as executive vice president and CEO of the Latin America division, will assume the role starting September 1.

Analyst Jon Cox of Kepler Cheuvreux indicated that many investors might view the change positively, given Nestlé’s recent performance struggles. Cox noted that investor confidence in Schneider had waned, partly due to a series of earnings misses and strategic missteps under his leadership.

Nestlé’s share price has faced pressure, with a 2.57% decline as of early trading in London. The company has struggled with market share retention and inflationary pressures affecting consumer behavior. Cox and Bernstein analysts suggested that Schneider’s departure might reflect dissatisfaction with his operational approach and strategic decisions.

Freixe’s appointment marks a return to Nestlé’s tradition of promoting from within, following Schneider’s unconventional hiring from outside the company in 2016. This shift is expected to focus more on top-line growth rather than mergers and acquisitions, with analysts anticipating modest portfolio adjustments under Freixe’s leadership.
