The coffee chain has shared that Starbucks Rewards members can enjoy a complimentary handcrafted fall beverage when they purchase another fall-themed drink on Thursday afternoons this September. As the summer season draws to a close, many eagerly anticipate the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, which traditionally marks the unofficial beginning of fall. Starbucks reintroduced the PSL on August 24th, alongside other autumn favorites. However, there have been recent social media discussions suggesting that the PSL’s flavor may have changed this year.
A TikTok user, @krisbella14, raised this question in a video, wondering aloud if the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte tastes different this year. Another TikTok video, posted by user @hhheathermichelle, shared thoughts on how the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew’s taste seemed altered. They mentioned that the foam was not as frothy as before. In the comments section of this TikTok, an individual claiming to be a Starbucks employee suggested that the method of preparation had changed, specifically mentioning a reduction in the amount of syrup used, with this year’s drinks incorporating half the usual amount. They also recommended seeking out stores that freshly prepare their Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam.

In August 2022, a TikTok video from a person identifying as a former Starbucks barista alleged changes to the syrup pump, indicating that it now dispenses a smaller quantity of syrup. Additionally, they asserted that Starbucks had replaced artificial pumpkin flavor with real pumpkin. However, it’s important to note that Starbucks transitioned to using real pumpkins and eliminating artificial flavors back in 2015. Consequently, there seems to be some confusion regarding these reported changes.
