In your opinion, how has leadership changed over the past few years? What are the quintessential qualities for a leader to thrive in the competition?
In my view, leadership has evolved significantly in recent years. Modern leaders are expected to be more inclusive and understanding, rather than strict and hierarchical. The increase in remote work has emphasised the importance of strong communication skills and digital savvy to maintain team connection and engagement. There’s also a growing focus on mental health and well-being, requiring leaders to be attentive to their team’s needs. Embracing diversity and inclusion is now essential for fostering innovation. To succeed in today’s competitive landscape, leaders must be adaptable, transparent, empathetic, and dedicated to promoting diversity and well-being.
Can you describe some of the difficulties you faced during your remarkable career?
My journey has been shaped by various challenges. Initially, I faced the task of establishing Acer as a well-known brand in India and gaining market share across different segments. Over time, we successfully expanded our product offerings and became a leading brand in the industry.
Another significant challenge was the rapid pace of change in the technology sector. To stay competitive, we had to anticipate shifts in consumer behaviour and emerging tech trends. By closely monitoring these changes and adapting our strategies, we have ensured Acer’s continued success in digital transformation. I believe that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and with our dedicated team, we have consistently turned obstacles into successes.
Who do you admire most in the business world, and why?
I admire Ratan Tata for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to ethical business practices. His ability to guide a global conglomerate through change while staying true to core values is truly inspiring.
In your role as CEO, what are your key tasks and obligations?
As President and Managing Director, I am responsible for driving revenue and profitability across India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, with a strong emphasis on elevating our brand and fulfilling our vision of “Breaking barriers between people and technology.” My role involves crafting and executing business strategies that fuel growth in both the commercial and consumer sectors while expanding Acer, Acerpure India, and Altos India’s market presence in these regions.
Since September 2016, I have also spearheaded the Acer Pan Asia Pacific (PAP) Regional Commercial Task Team, focusing on strategic financial planning and execution throughout the region. My journey at Acer has been defined by unwavering dedication, patience, and perseverance—qualities that have been instrumental in advancing our business and establishing a solid foundation across diverse market segments.
Can you highlight some of the major accomplishments from your career?
Throughout my career at Acer, I’ve had the opportunity to lead the company to become a leader in several critical sectors, including Government, BFSI, and Education. Today, Acer is the fastest-growing PC brand in India, a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation. Additionally, Acer India has been recognized as one of the top 3 countries within the Acer group globally, which underscores our strong performance and strategic initiatives.
A cornerstone of our success has been our unwavering commitment to local manufacturing. For over 20 years, Acer has been at the forefront of championing ‘Make in India,’ contributing to India’s economy and delivering high-quality, locally-produced products to our customers. This commitment to local manufacturing is not just a strategy; it’s a reflection of our belief in India’s potential as a global electronics manufacturing hub.
Given the dynamic nature of the market, how do you ensure you’re always up-to-date?
To stay ahead of the curve, I prioritize continuous learning and networking. I keep a close eye on industry trends and innovations by following leading publications and thought leaders. Understanding our customers’ evolving needs is crucial for adapting our strategies effectively. This proactive approach ensures we remain agile and responsive to market changes.
