Rich and Fascinating History 

The history of the city began in 1843 when business partners William Overton and Asa Lovejoy filed to claim land on the western bank of River Willamette in the Oregon State of  US. In 1845, settlers arrived and the name of the city was given by coin toss between these partners. Lovejoy wanted to name the city after his hometown, Boston, while William wanted to name it after his hometown, Portland, Maine.
