Tornadoes Sweep Through Southern States

Mississippi was one of the hardest-hit states, with reports confirming two fatalities—one in Adams County and another in Lowndes County—along with numerous injuries. In North Carolina, a storm-related death occurred on a roadway in Iredell County. Meanwhile, in Texas, a suspected tornado in the Liverpool area caused one fatality and injured four others.

The severe storm caused significant structural damage across multiple states. In Montgomery County, Texas, an EF-3 tornado destroyed over 300 structures and left up to ten people with minor injuries. In Athens, Alabama, an EF-1 tornado was recorded with estimated wind speeds of 100 mph and a path width of 160 yards, leaving behind substantial damage.

Emergency alerts highlighted the severity of the situation. A rare “moderate risk” warning was issued for parts of Mississippi and Louisiana, indicating a level 4 out of 5 threat on the risk scale. Additionally, a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” tornado watch was implemented for areas in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, emphasizing the potential for catastrophic damage.
