The COP26 is underway
Although the pandemic was worse for the people of the world, it brought spectacular climate changes. Right from better air quality index, more greens, ozone layer closing down, and even endangered animal species recovering.
We cannot deny the splendid environmental impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The lockdown gave time for nature to take a breath and rejuvenate. But now since the train of development, industrialization, and growth is back on track with the pedal to the metal.
What will be the course of action now? As research and studies predict if stringent actions and norms are not in place, the next crisis in line is Climate. The widespread regard for the environment and protection is also growing and expanding.
All eyes are set on the COP26 meet, currently underway in Glasgow. It stands for Conference of Parties, iterated by the UN. There are 197 member countries, working together towards the environment.
Why COP26 is so important?
The COP26 conference is held to discuss impending climate and ecosystem issues. Then resolutions are made and taken. There is a rulebook that discusses the terms in detail so that the member countries can adhere to them precisely.
If you’re wondering if something crucial ever comes from the conference. The landmark Paris agreement, which is a legally binding international treaty. It was signed by 196 countries in December 2015. The treaty was to limit global warming to 2 degrees celsius, if not to 1.5 degrees.
In this year’s conference, many major issues are being discussed and benign worked upon. Especially the rising coal shortage and its environmental impacts, etc. The major focus is oriented towards reaching a consensus to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above preindustrial levels and to secure net-zero emissions by 2050.
Is growth everything or does the environment matter?
The COP26 conference also aims to help and get funding for developing countries to meet the discussed and signed aims. So, what is being discussed and signed upon will have large-scale changes and implications. Air Purifiers are always an important factor.
In the end, this is our world, and what we do matters. A single change from an individual can become a large change in the coming years. Right from fixing leaking taps, there is a couple of thousand liters of water to save, and two trees can provide oxygen to a family of four.
The change is you, big or small, doesn’t matter. Keep in mind, there’s always the butterfly effect!
