In a conversation with Mr. Avinash Chandra, Founder, and CEO at BrandLoom Consulting, he shared his views on the current industry scenario and what BrandLoom is all about.
• Brief us about the company.
We offer a host of marketing services and help businesses develop their unique identities- so that they can build up a memorable and reputable brand in the long run. Since our journey started in 2015, we have worked with many Indian and multinational brands. We have worked with many clients from diverse sectors like education, farming, apparel, gaming, healthcare & wellness, FMCG, automotive, devotion, and technology.
• What were the initial challenges you faced?
The initial challenge, of course, was finding the right people for the team. However, we have built up a team of bright and dedicated people over the last few years. We look for people who believe in our vision, are willing to tackle the challenges that the industry throws at us regularly, and are eager to experiment with new ideas and perspectives.
• Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company?
Our first office was in Delhi. It is the opening of the Mumbai office in 2018 that gave us the boost that we needed. We were lucky to acquire some big-name clients who trusted us over other older agencies. The work we did for them added to our resume and gave us more confidence in our methods. We haven’t looked back since- and can happily say that we have been able to sustain our momentum.
• What is the reason behind your company’s long-standing success?
There are two reasons for our success:
We deliver the results we promise,
& we ensure that our clients get the best return on investment (ROI).
We can provide the results we promise because all our decisions are data-driven- and we offer custom-made solutions for each client. We know that every brand is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. So, we take care to make a realistic assessment of every client’s needs and design solutions uniquely suited to them.
BrandLoom’s USP is that we deliver solutions that ensure the best ROI. Being a young company, we understand how important it is for our clients to grow sustainably. So, we offer practical solutions that will ensure our clients’ growth in the long term; while taking care of their short-term financial objectives.
• What are the products/services the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market?
We specialize in strategic branding services like brand consulting, visual identity designing, logo designing, brand identity development, brand positioning, and personal branding.
BrandLoom also offers digital marketing services like consumer/market insights, website development, content marketing, graphic designing, video marketing, SEO, social media marketing, link building, mobile app development, and email marketing.
What sets BrandLoom apart is that we focus on developing a brand holistically. We understand the brand’s values, personality, central message, and tone and then formulate a strategy that will help it engage with its target audience in the best possible way.
BrandLoom ensures that the brand messaging stays the same across all platforms- and our solutions are custom-made for each client. We ensure that our clients get the best ROI, and we constantly monitor relevant market data, tweaking our approach where needed.
• How do you decide to take the company a step further in terms of your products/services?
We are now stepping up our video production and marketing capabilities. It’s a no-brainer that videos will be even more popular, and they will play a crucial role in telling a brand’s stories. BrandLoom wants to offer even better video marketing services to its clients to offer better brand experiences to their customers.
• Is there any new addition to the list of products/services? Anything exciting you would like to share?
We are expanding and are about to open new offices in the USA, UK, and Singapore. We are excited to meet new challenges and are ready to welcome more international clients.
• Can you please brief us about your professional experience?
I started my career in marketing almost two decades ago. I have worked in various capacities with brands like Philips, Bausch & Lomb, Hanes, Invista, and Opple. The insights and experiences I gained during my career helped me develop my perspective and prompted me to build something. Hence, BrandLoom was born in 2015. Heading my own company has opened up a new world- and I am excited to see more of it.
• What are the key achievements of your entrepreneurial journey?
Since our journey started, we have had many milestones to celebrate- from landing some big clients to mentions in “Top 10” lists in many publications.
However, expanding to new locations are our most significant achievements. We started in Delhi in 2015 and then expanded to Gurgaon in 2016. In 2018, we opened our Mumbai and Pune offices- and in FY2021-22, we are set to debut in the USA, UK, and Singapore.
• How do you look after your employees? What makes your team unique?
We are proud to have some of the best minds in the industry working with us. We understand that they cannot bring their best if we do not provide the right environment for them- so since we started, we have been okay with our team members working from home whenever needed. Maintaining a work-life balance is crucial, and we allow flexibility in working hours as much as we can.
Of course, since the pandemic hit, everyone has been working remotely. We have made it a point to communicate with our team regularly, and our team leaders talk to each member every day. We all must stay in touch, and we always encourage our employees to get in touch with their respective team leaders or other colleagues if they want to share anything.
What makes our team unique is that more than half of them are women. Women head almost all teams. Since its inception, we have tried to be women-friendly, and our policies center on creating a work environment where women feel comfortable. Companies who are not actively trying to be more inclusive will miss out on valuable talent and rich perspectives- and we never want to be counted among them.
Also, we encourage our employees to experiment with new ideas- because the only way to grow is by trial and error. By allowing our employees to make mistakes, we have come up with some great ideas and solutions- and I can say for sure that we are happy with our approach.
• One person who you admire the most?
I consider David Aaker, whose marketing model and insights have been invaluable in my career, to be the most influential person in my life.
• Whose business story do you find the most inspiring?
Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, has been my inspiration and idol. He rose from humble beginnings, and through sheer grit, built an empire. Yet, you will be hard-pressed to find a person more down to worth.
• Which is the most inspiring quote you have read?
“I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.”-Jeff Bezos, founder & CEO, Amazon.
This quote is not just inspiring- it encapsulates what entrepreneurship and living are all about. If you don’t try, you will never know what you are capable of. If you want to create something- you have to try; you may not succeed immediately, but it will enrich your perspective on life and teach you something invaluable.
• Constant vigilance- a need or a strategy? Please share your views.
Constant vigilance is counter-productive. Yes, you need to stay on top of what is happening in your company- but if that devolves into micromanagement- you will devolve. You have to trust people, and while there should always be supervision, you have to give your team their space to express themselves and do things their way. If you keep pestering them or try to control every move, they make- you will drive away good people and sink yourself.
• It’s a rat race out there. How do you cope with that?
I feel that you have to focus on improving yourself. Strategize accordingly- don’t just blindly ape what the competition is doing. Keep the long-term view in mind, and things will pan out eventually. On the personal front, I make sure to avoid burnout. I take time to relax and meditate and ensure that I spend quality time with my family every day. If you want to survive and thrive in this competitive world, you MUST make time for yourself. Otherwise, you will crash out faster than you can imagine. Remember, if you’re going to make good decisions, you have to take care of your mental well-being.
