In a talk with them, let’s get to know about their journey in the field of law since inception.
Tell us about PSL Advocates and Solicitors.
The law firm was initially set up in 2012 (as PAMASIS) with around a team of only 4 lawyers and has grown to become PSL Advocates and Solicitors with a team of around 35 advocates working out of three fully functional offices, one in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. PSL Advocates and Solicitors is led by young counsels being Mr. Sandeep Bajaj and Mr. Sameer Jain (both Managing Partners) who have since day one focussed on tapping resources in the form of young counsels and channelizing their company and able assistance in furthering their goals.
- What were the initial challenges you faced?
The initial challenges which we faced were managing work and office requirements. We had a very humble beginning and had to undertake everything from drafting, filing to arguing ourselves alongside administrative work. The challenge was, especially as a first-generation lawyer, to prioritize our work and our clients, above everything else, which, I am happy to say, we did. We proudly introduce our office as the clock operations firm with efforts towards efficient and quick turn-around and hence, the constant endeavor remains complete client satisfaction.
- Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company?
While we had worked from the inception of PSL Advocates and Solicitors, it was a high stake bank guarantee matter which required us to analyze thousands of documents overnight, draft the suit, file the same, mention and get a stay. We were able to do it and that catapulted us as trusted lawyers who could work relentlessly to achieve the objective. As a firm, we have throughout believed in moving further along with all our associates and peers. This has enabled joining of forces by all our associates in making Our Firm grow.

- How have the company graphs changed since the foundation?
From a team of 4 lawyers, we are now a team of 35 advocates (as stated above). From an expanse of specialized in civil and tax litigation, PSL Advocates and Solicitors is now a full-service law firm advising our clients for their corporate and another regulatory advisory to extremely complex dispute international commercial arbitration disputes.
- What is the reason behind PSL Advocates and Solicitors’s long-standing success?
The reasons are multi-fold, including the continuing effort of all the members of the firm in being joint in our efforts and not settling for just meeting the needs of the client. PSL Advocates and Solicitors as a firm believes in excellence both in terms of the needs of the pursuit posed before us as well as further academic objectives. The legal profession poses questions of law, having far-reaching consequences and in all such situations we believe in not leaving any stone unturned and any resource unexploited. It’s our Firm’s persistency in going the extra mile that has helped PSL Advocates and Solicitors have a consistent upward graph.
- What are the services PSL Advocates and Solicitors focused on? How are your services different from those in the market?
PSL Advocates and Solicitors specialize in areas of international and domestic dispute resolution and insolvency and bankruptcy laws along with corporate advisory in aspects of foreign exchange management, corporate debt restructuring, and taxation. Our services have since inception has weighted prior experience and knowledge with a fresh perspective being in constant touch with the changing realities.
- How do you decide to take PSL Advocates and Solicitors a step further in terms of your services?
The decisions in the past have been driven by the growing needs of Our Clients and our approach towards bringing together the brightest minds and keenest discoverers. In light of such an experience, the next step has always been the natural consequence.
- Is there any new addition to the list of services? Anything exciting you would like to share?
I have recently been involved in the process of liquidating a company that has assets of over 300 crores and I and my team are closely assisting the liquidator in keeping the company and the business alive, in terms of the spirit of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. We currently have no plans to further expand our service base. We believe in the best in what we do rather than doing everything and not be the best.

- How have you seen diversity change over the years in the legal sector?
The diversity is across the type of laws, type of lawyers, type of mechanism for enforcement of legal remedies. The diversity has changed dramatically in terms of the eagerness of the parties to resolve disputes whether amicably or through alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Sandeep Bajaj has a record in mediating matters for his clients objectively ensuring earlier resolution and continuance of business relationships between the parties.
- Can you please brief us about your professional experience?
I practiced core litigation for close to 10 years in the office of a renowned senior counsel; before me and Sameer joined the forces which led to the establishment of PSL Advocates and Solicitors. Hence, the journey has only begun to reach the stature of one of the more sought-after law firms in India.
- What are the key achievements of your journey in law and litigation sector?
Key achievements have been numerous in the combined experience of the members of PSL Advocates and Solicitors. We have consistently been ranked by international publications as a leading dispute resolution firm. We have numerous matters which we argued and succeeded that became landmark orders in their field of law.
- How do you look after your employees? What makes your team unique?
PSL Advocates and Solicitors as a firm have ensured in growing as a whole. Hence, our team is unique as each member has a specialization that doesn’t overlap the others and we keep encouraging our team to evolve our practice and our performance, inside and outside the courts. Further, the culture in our firm is extremely relaxed and we call it a family!
- Is there any special experience with your clients you would like to highlight?
I cannot disclose the names, but there are at least three clients who came to us after they were told that no relief is possible from a lot of places. We were able to get them the desired relief in record time. Therefore, we have a precedent of a high rate of retention. Our firm is impaneled with companies, banks, government entities for years now.
- Except litigations, how are the other law practices are important to run a law firm?
As a full-service law firm, it is most essential in having a holistic approach towards the requirements of the clients. Hence, while dispute resolution is a premier front for us, it is the ability to resolve all their regular legal queries of a client that has kept PSL Advocates and Solicitors going strong.
- According to you what next generation advocates and litigators should focus on?
The next generation lawyers ought to focus on the product they have to deliver; if the focus remains unblemished, the achievements would always be unprecedented. Further, the young generation of lawyers must know that there is no shortcut for burning the midnight oil. None whatsoever!!
- The one who you admire the most?
Senior supreme court advocate Fali S Nariman has been always a source of motivation for us.
- Constant vigilance- a need or a strategy?
It is a strategy as it allows you to stay abreast and keep a personalized touch with the clients.
- It’s a rat-race out there. How do you cope with that?
It is a misconception, there is enough pie for everyone to eat. There is no need for anyone to eat from the other’s plate. Especially in this profession of law. I have never considered us as competitors in the so-called rat race. I and Sameer sometimes sit and feel sad for people who think there is a rat race and they must run. All that is required is a passion for law, honesty, and integrity. Rest everything will follow.
